Spaghetti alla calabrese are spicy with hot pepper. The recipe is from Calabria, the toe of the boot of Italy. Calabresi are noted as being fond of hot spicy food. This is a quick pasta recipe.


Ingredients for 4 people:

  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped finely
  • 12 filets of anchovies
  • 1 cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • salt



Put oil, garlic and cayenne pepper in a deep pan large enough to toss spaghetti later, and cook briefly at low heat. Add anchovies and dissolve them.

Toss cooked drained spaghetti in the pan, add parsley and mix well. Turn heat off and serve.


Note: be careful not to burn garlic. Make condiment as spicy as you like. Always save some water from the pasta, in case dish too dry, or add some raw oil.
